Zach Schwarz ’02 Helps Episcopal To #1 National HS Ranking

It’s taken years of work: building a program, instilling a soccer mentality and — of course — coaching soccer.

But Episcopal High School — one of the top prep schools in the Houston area — finished the winter season ranked #1 in nation, by Top Drawer.

And Zach Schwarz ’02 helped get them there.

The former Staples High and Princeton University star teaches history, serves as an administrator, and is the longtime varsity assistant at Episcopal. This year, the Knights won their 4th straight Southwest Preparatory Conference Division I championship. They fell behind 1-0 in the title match, then rallied for a 2-1 win over John Cooper High.

Division I prospect Victor Velasco and Juan Rodriguez combined for 50 goals on the season. Episcopal — which includes several players from the strong Houstonians club team — outscored its opponents 73-3 on the season. They notched a big 1-0 win over Central Catholic, the week after Central Catholic beat Top 25 powers Cathedral and Loyola, both of California.

Congratulations, Zach — and Episcopal!
