Wes Malowitz P’12, Stuart McCarthy ’79 P’10 Join Top Of The Hill Team Board

Wes Malowitz P’12 and Stuart McCarthy ’79 P’10 are the newest additions to the Top of the Hill Team  executive board. They bring the number of directors of the Staples boys soccer booster organization to 7.

Wes, an attorney, has served as president of the Westport Soccer Association since 2009. He is also a certified referee.

“I’m very proud to serve on the Top of the Hill board,” Wes says. “I look forward to continuing the strong association between Staples soccer program and the WSA.”

Stuart, who won state championships at the youth, Staples and adult levels, and then enjoyed his own son’s title run, is the director of Westport’s Parks and Recreation Department. A certified official who works state cup and Connecticut cups, he helped found the WSA girls soccer program, and also coached the Staples girls team from 1984 to 1988. He played at Springfield College, and for Westport’s legendary Ye Olde Bridge Grille Soccer Club (which he also coached).

“I consider it an honor to join the executive board,” says Stuart.

“It would be impossible to understate the impact of Staples soccer on myself and my family.  As a player I was exposed to coaches who were the finest role models, and developed lifelong friendships with teammates.  As a parent I watched my son achieve great things both on and off the field as a result of the confidence and sense of commitment developed largely though his involvement with Staples soccer.

“I look forward to assisting the Top of the Hill Team in its mission to support the program, and continue to foster the important traditions of Staples soccer.”

“I’ve loved watching Wes and Stuart’s sons play for Staples,” adds Top of the Hill Team president Wynne Bohonnon P’08. “Wes and Stuart love the game, and have a great appreciation for Staples soccer. They’ll be great additions to the board.”

The Top of the Hill Team – which provides funds and opportunities to the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams beyond what the school budget provides, and also assists with scholarships and aid for alumni — is gearing up for its 2011 membership drive. Details will be announced soon, including a new focus on involvement from graduating classes, from 1958 through 2010.
