USA Nets 2 Big Wins In Watermelon Cup

USA (the current college players) met Brazil (players long out of college) in a battle of the unbeatens tonight in Watermelon Cup.  Earlier this year, the 2 sides drew.

The younger squad easily outlasted their elders — who were missing several key players — 6-0.  USA then found themselves in a huge battle against middle-of-the-pack Somalia, a high school team.  The table leaders fought from a 3-1 deficit, eking out a 4-3 victory.

In other action, Chad came through with its 1st win of the summer, while the Netherlands broke a 3rd-place tie with Somalia, thanks to a 5-1 victory.

The Watermelon Cup concludes next Wednesday.  The 6:15 p.m. semifinals at Long Lots pits USA against Somalia, and Brazil versus the Netherlands.  At the same time, Argentina and Chad will play for 5th place.  The finals and consolation round follow immediately, at 7:15.
