Memorial Service Friday, November 23 For Austin Hood

A memorial service for Austin Hood — brother of Staples soccer player Sebo Hood — is set for 1 p.m. Friday, November 23 (the day after Thanksgiving) at Longshore. The remembrance will be followed by a reception, to honor his memory.

Austin graduated from Staples in 2010. Most recently a student at Loyola University in New Orleans, he died last month. He was 20 years old.

In addition to Sebo, Austin is survived by his father Jim, his stepmother Julia, and his sisters Brittany and Karalyn.

The Hood family said: “Austin was an extraordinary young man with a loving heart and a hopeful spirit.

“He was a brilliant musician, and had a sense of humor and sharp wit that could bring people to their knees. Austin also had uncanny insight into human behavior, surely derived from his own journey.

“Austin’s family has chosen to commit their time and resources to supporting organizations that help young adults deal with the challenges they face growing up in this world.

“One such organization is the Teen Awareness Group at Staples High School, which sponsors many excellent programs throughout the school year.

“Those wishing to make a donation can send a check to: The Austin Hood Foundation, P.O. Box 806,  Westport, CT 06881.

“Our collective hearts are broken. We cannot express our profound sadness and emptiness caused by Austin’s passing. Please join us in saying goodbye to our beloved son and brother.”
