Guiduli, Hochhauser, Moreno Elected ’21 Captains

The 2021 Staples soccer team will be led by tri-captains.

Rising seniors Bruno Guiduli, Jackson Hochhauser and Murilo Moreno have been elected by their teammates, the coaching staff announced today.

“They have chosen well, and chosen clearly,” says head coach Dan Woog. “All 3 are strong, talented players. Just as importantly, they are passionate about the game, and they care deeply about Staples soccer. They have the respect of their peers and their coaches. Everyone who has seen them knows they will be excellent leaders.”

But, Woog adds, to be successful the senior-laden squad needs many others to step into leadership roles. The coaching staff’s job is to develop them all as leaders, between now and the start of the season in August.

After a strong freshman year, Guiduli missed all of his sophomore season with an injury. He started this past fall with the reserves, but was quickly moved to varsity. Within 2 games he earned a starting defensive role, and grew even stronger and more confident as the year progressed.

Hochhauser, also a defender. rose through the Westport Soccer Association program. He starred for the reserves as a sophomore, then earned a varsity spot this autumn and was a key to the Wreckers’ success.

Moreno is a 2-year varsity starter. As a central midfielder he is adept at linking defenders and attackers, playing with vision and poise.

“They’re ready to begin,” Woog says, referring to the entire 14-player returnee group. “August can’t come soon enough.”
