Coaches Announced for WSA U-18, U-16 Teams; Registration Deadline Near

With the registration deadline of March 10 looming, the Westport Soccer Association has announced the coaches for its U-18 and U-16 boys teams.

Dr. Joseph Mortati will be the U-18 coach. A doctor of physical therapy who has practiced sports medicine for the past 15 years, he is the medical director for the Trumbull TOPPS Soccer Program. Coach Mortati has compiled a 5-year record of 75-4-1, winning numerous division championships, tournament championships and reaching state cup semifinals. His philosophy combines the spirit of the game with sound fundamentals, sportsmanship and tactical and technical skill training. He coached last spring’s WSA U-16 travel team.

David Piedrahita will coach this year’s U-16 team. He played for Northeastern ODP and Region 1 team from2002-’06. In 2004 he was invited to the Super Y League camp. He was named Journal News Player of the Year, All-American,  New York State Player of the Year and Sectional player of the year. He played college soccer for Fairfield University from 2006-’11, and served as captain senior year. He helped the Stags capture 2 MAAC championships. He coached in the White Plains youth program, and began working with Mickey Kydes Soccer Enterprises in 2011.

All high school students living in Westport are invited to register for the U-18 and U-16 teams.

The season will include at least 1 practice per week (Thursdays, 6-7:30 p.m.); approximately 8 games played against other town travel teams; participation in the spring CT Cup tournament, and in the WSA WIN tournament in mid-March.
