2010 Team Named Fairfield County “Local Sportspersons Of The Year”

October 17 will be a big night for Staples boys soccer.

Albie Loeffler — the program’s founder — will be inducted into the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame.

At the same 7th Annual Sports Night dinner (7 p.m, Greenwich Hyatt), the 2010 team will be honored as Westport’s “Sportspersons of the Year.”  An individual or team is cited in each of 15 Fairfield County towns.

Each winner was deemed to have had “the most positive impact” in the town’s sports community from August 2010 through August 2011.

“This is a tremendous honor for our program,” said head coach Dan Woog.  “Last year’s squad compiled a great record, played exciting soccer, and created a real buzz around soccer on The Hill.  I think the entire Westport soccer community shares in this award.”

The dinner — which annually attracts over 600 attendees — is sponsored by the Fairfield County Sports Commission.  It is the organization’s biggest fundraiser. Proceeds are earmarked for the organization’s fitness awareness programs, which reaches more than 110,000 youngsters in Fairfield County through the Chelsea Cohen Fitness Academy program.

Tickets are $115 until September 30; $125 thereafter.  Tables of 10 are $1150 until September 30; $1250 from then on.
